Project:  Solving big data problems in bioengineering

Background:  The Gradinaru lab is looking for talented and highly motivated computer science majors to design and implement algorithms for various bioengineering applications. The Gradinaru lab uses advanced technologies such as optogenetics, CLARITY, physiology, imaging, protein engineering, deep sequencing and behavior to understand and develop therapies for neurological diseases.
Description:  Example projects include but are not limited to: registration of 3D images, automatic cell counting, sequence alignments and pattern recognition in big data sets and processing real-time calcium imaging data.
Student Requirements:  “Required”: Basic knowledge in Algorithm design, strong quantitative and programming skills (e.g. proficient in one or more of: MATLAB, Python and R).

“Preferred”: Background in image processing and/or deep sequencing data analysis, machine learning and deep learning.
Programs:  This AO can be done under the following programs:
