Project:  Analysis of Mitochondrial Dynamics
Disciplines:  Biology, Biochemistry
Mentor:  David Chan, Professor of Biology, (BBE), dchan@caltech.edu, Phone: (626) 395-2670
Mentor URL:  http://www.its.caltech.edu/~chanlab/  (opens in new window)
AO Contact:  David Chan, dchan@caltech.edu
Background:  Our lab is interested in understanding the dynamic behavior of mitochondria. We study the fusion, fission, and degradation of mitochondria. We are interested in how these processes are regulated and how they control cell physiology.
Description:  Two types of projects are possible. (1) Biochemical and structural analysis of proteins involved in mitochondrial fusion. (2) Cell biological studies on the role of mitochondrial dynamics on cell physiology.
