Background:  The Voting Rights Act, the most successful civil rights act in U.S. history, is under severe attack, and laws infringing on minority voting rights have been passed in many states. This project will complete the most comprehensive database of voting rights actions ever assembled and add to another database on the 2001 California Voting Rights Act.
Description:  The student will gather more information, update and expand the databases, and assist in their analysis, particularly in preparing a paper on the California Voting Rights Act. In addition, the student will set up a website to make available information from this and other voting rights projects.
Student Requirements:  Experience with Excel and in setting up websites would be desirable, as would courses in American history and political science, especially on the U.S. Supreme Court. But they are not required.
