Project:  Applications of 3D Nanofabrication

Background:  NOTE: This project is being offered by a Caltech alum and will take place in College Park, Maryland.

One of the major research focuses in our group is the use of multiphoton absorption for the fabrication of 3D structures with feature sizes down to less than 100 nm.
Description:  We work on many aspects of 3D nanofabrication, from basic technology development to applications in a wide range of areas. We will work with the student to design a project that fits with his/her experience and interests. Possibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Fabrication of nanostructured surfaces to study and control the behavior of cells
• Design and application of 3D microfluidic systems
• Pursuit of new technologies involving simultaneous fabrication and manipulation
• Development of new methods of selective incorporation of materials in 3D structures
• Development of new, multicolor photoresists for resolution enhancement

Student Requirements:  One year of Caltech coursework should be sufficient to undertake a project. Depending on the exact project chosen, background in areas such as optics/lasers or cell biology may be helpful.
