Project:  Small Satellite Dynamics Testbed Hardware Testing and Software Development
Disciplines:  Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Mentor:  Swati Mohan, (JPL),, Phone: (818) 354-5305
Background:  The SmallSat Dynamics Testbed (SSDT) is at the forefront of research, development, and testing of SmallSat guidance and control systems. We study the dynamics and controls of SmallSats and CubeSats using flight-like sensors and actuators on air bearing platforms. As a result, the SSDT offers a fast-paced, collaborative work environment where students can make lasting contributions to our facility while learning about guidance and control, CubeSats, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
Description:  This summer, we are looking for motivated students with software-development skills (in MATLAB and/or C++) who are interested in working on a variety of software projects in the testbed. These projects may include developing algorithms, writing code, and testing the code on our hardware platforms. We are looking to improve our data collection from our sensors, develop autonomous routines for calibration and balancing of our systems, and develop visualizations and GUIs, among other tasks. Experience with Atlas processors and guidance/control systems is a plus.
Student Requirements:  Matlab / C++ coding experience
Control algorithms
Location / Safety:  Project building and/or room locations: . Student will need special safety training: No.
