Project:  Autonomy and Perception for Sample Transfer

Background:  A long term objective for NASA is Mars Sample Return (MSR), a multi-mission effort that will involve rendezvous, capture, and transfer of an orbital sample cache.
Description:  Candidate will implement software and algorithms for recognizing a sample cache in a scene with various sensors such as LIDAR and Stereo cameras, using sensor fusion to bring multiple estimates together, actuating to capture the sample cache, and doing other autonomous robotic tasks.
Student Requirements:  Robotics: Perception, Computer Vision, Planning, Kinematics, Dynamics, Algorithms;
Programming: C, C++, Python, Automake;
Operating Systems: Linux, Ubuntu
Location / Safety:  Project building and/or room locations: . Student will need special safety training: Yes.
