SURF: Announcements of Opportunity

Below are Announcements of Opportunity posted by Caltech faculty and JPL technical staff for the SURF program. Additional AOs for the Amgen Scholars program can be found here.

Students pursuing opportunities at JPL must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents.

Each AO indicates whether or not it is open to non-Caltech students. If an AO is NOT open to non-Caltech students, please DO NOT contact the mentor.

Project:  DTN Network Monitor and Control for Cubesats

Background:  Morehead State University is putting Disruption Tolerant Networking capabilities in to their 21M dish ground station. This antenna is going to be part of of the Deep Space Network, and they need additional software for doing DTN Network Monitor and Control (DTN NM&C), specifically building upon use of Logstash, Elasticsearch and Kibana (LEK), and working with GUI development to display network performance information obtained through the DTN Asynchronous Management Protocol (DTN-AMP) messages.
Description:  Collaborate with MSU graduate students and JPL DTN software engineers on Logstash/Elasticsearch/Kibana use for NM&C software and for the display of information obtained through messages from the DTN . Tasks will include testing operational use of existing LEK NM&C software, assist with configuration of the LEK environment and Kibana display setup, and integrate reporting from DTN AMP into the management system. The DSN is also specifically interested in automatic alarms for future unattended DTN NM&C, and the feasibility of doing that with the LEK environment is to be evaluated.
