Below are Announcements of Opportunity posted by Caltech faculty and JPL technical staff for the SURF program. Additional AOs for the Amgen Scholars program can be found here.

Each AO indicates whether or not it is open to non-Caltech students. If an AO is NOT open to non-Caltech students, please DO NOT contact the mentor.

Project:  Mechancial Engineeer to Support Automaton Rover for Extreme Environments

Background:  The automaton rover is a mechanical rover designed to operate in Venus's high temperatures. This is a NASA Innovative Advanced Concept. See the link below for more details.
Description:  You will be developing mechanisms and mechanical systems to create prototype style clockwork rovers. Project will consists of both early prototyping, and getting metal parts fabricated through the machine shop.

Student Requirements:  Solidworks/CAD
Hands-on, familiar with hand tools.
Ability to think outside the box.
Experience designing mechanisms.
