SURF: Announcements of Opportunity

Below are Announcements of Opportunity posted by Caltech faculty and JPL technical staff for the SURF program. Additional AOs for the Amgen Scholars program can be found here.

Each AO indicates whether or not it is open to non-Caltech students. If an AO is NOT open to non-Caltech students, please DO NOT contact the mentor.

Project:  Team X Avionics Model Update
Disciplines:  Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering

Background:  Team X is a multi-disciplined team of specialists that does rapid and thorough design and review of space missions using concurrent engineering tools and processes. The team typically assists proposal teams with feasibility studies and cost estimates for future missions and mission concepts.
Description:  Task Details:
1. Survey sub-disciplines of Avionics development, assess state of grass roots modeling knowledge and knowledge of completed projects.
2. Discuss with Team X foundry development engineers the existing and in-progress models and the information needed for future modeling efforts
3. Extract historical cost/workforce information for recently completed projects
4. Work with Team X foundry development engineers to incorporate the above historical cost/workforce information into the foundry models
