Project:  Using coordination chemistry to stabilize radical intermediates
Discipline:  Chemistry
Mentor:  Theodore Betley, Professor of Chemistry, (CCE), betley@chemistry.harvard.edu, Phone: 617-496-9944
Mentor URL:  https://www.betleylab.chemistry.harvard.edu/  (opens in new window)
Background:  NOTE: This project is being offered by a Caltech alum and is open only to Caltech students. The project will be conducted at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

We are interested in exploring radicaloid ligands that represent reactive intermediates in atom and group transfer catalysis. Work flow will include synthesis, spectroscopy, and theoretical modeling to probe and understand electronic structure makeup.
Description:  The student will utilize either steric preclusion or Lewis acid stabilization of radicaloid ligands to gauge their reactivity for C-H bond activation processes.
