Project:  Ariel / Case data product quality automated supervision
(JPL AO No. 16194)
Disciplines:  Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence
Mentor:  Gael Roudier, (JPL), Gael.M.Roudier@jpl.nasa.gov, Phone: (818) 393-7252
Background:  In a few years, the ESA / NASA Ariel / CASE mission will launch, surveying more than a thousand of exo-worlds in a span of a few years. Excalibur, the US Ariel / CASE pipeline generates and deliver intermediate and end-products, from raw data to atmospheric constraints, via the exoplanet spectrum. While some checks can be made with human intervention, the scale and schedule of Ariel / CASE target list does not allow for thorough checks for every single product of the Excalibur pipeline and every single desired metric attached to them.
Description:  The successful candidate will design an Artificial Intelligence approach to solve for Excalibur data product quality supervision. They will create a new / modify the current capability, in compliance with the latest Python software updates, while having a full understanding of the science made out of each intermediate / end product.
Student Requirements:  Required: Computer Science
Suggested: Astronomy / Astrophysics, Physics
