SURF: Announcements of Opportunity
Below are Announcements of Opportunity posted by Caltech faculty and JPL technical staff for the SURF program. Additional AOs for the Amgen Scholars program can be found here.

Students pursuing opportunities at JPL must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents.
Each AO indicates whether or not it is open to non-Caltech students. If an AO is NOT open to non-Caltech students, please DO NOT contact the mentor.

|Project:||Design and production of an automated microscope|
|Disciplines:||Mechanical Engineering, Medical Engineering|
|Background:||Our lab has developed a single cell assay called seqFISH using single molecule microscopy to profile the overall state of the cells. The recent papers include applying seqFISH to mouse brains, embryonic stem cells, and embryos.|
SURF students can participate in any of the following projects.
1. Design automated fluidics components for the microscope.
2. Design computational tools to analyze "big data" images.
3. Use bioinformatics tools to design oligonucleotide probes.
|Student Requirements:||Course works in Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science, or Bioinformatics are strongly recommended. Especially ME13 and 14.|
