SURF: Announcements of Opportunity

Below are Announcements of Opportunity posted by Caltech faculty and JPL technical staff for the SURF program. Additional AOs for the Amgen Scholars program can be found here.

Students pursuing opportunities at JPL must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents.

Each AO indicates whether or not it is open to non-Caltech students. If an AO is NOT open to non-Caltech students, please DO NOT contact the mentor.

Project:  Molecular Basis of Protein Biogenesis

Background:  Interested students can choose from the following projects:
1. Mechanism of molecular interplay at the ribosome exit site
2. Molecular mechanism of the mammalian signal recognition particle
3. Nascent protein triage by chaperone network during tail-anchored membrane protein targeting
4. Mechanism of substrate recognition and regulation of a novel membrane protein chaperone
Description:  Please read the lab website for a more detailed description on each project, including representative publications. For details of the experimental approach, please directly contact Shu-ou Shan.
Student Requirements:  We look for candidates with either a strongly quantitative biochemical and biophysical background, or those with expertise with molecular and cell biology.
