Each AO indicates whether or not it is open to non-Caltech students. If an AO is NOT open to non-Caltech students, please DO NOT contact the mentor.

Project:  Big Data Analytics and Machine Learning
Disciplines:  Computer Science, Mathematics

Background:  A number of projects, from Satellites and Ground Sensors result in massive amounts of data which capture interesting correlations between various factors, and yet are too massive for conventional techniques. New techqnies such as Deep Learning have shown promise in extracting more valuable information from this data.
Description:  Will apply data analytics techniques, including but not limited to deep learning to extract information from large amounts of data.
Student Requirements:  Computer science or equivalent, capability in programming and data analysis. Prior experience in machine learning highly desirable. Understanding of geology, in particular related to underground resources such as oil and gas is a plus.
