Below are Announcements of Opportunity posted by Caltech faculty and JPL technical staff for the SURF program. Additional AOs for the Amgen Scholars program can be found here.

Each AO indicates whether or not it is open to non-Caltech students. If an AO is NOT open to non-Caltech students, please DO NOT contact the mentor.

Project:  Sensor network development for Mars exploration
Disciplines:  Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering

Background:  Robotic Sensor Networks are becoming increasingly relevant and attractive for planetary exploration. There a several multi-year projects at JPL to develop multi-robot systems.
Description:  This project involves helping JPL reserachers and engineers develop new sensor network technologies and distributed algorithms for Mars and Lunar exploration, with a strong focus on communication network optimization and software engineering.
Student Requirements:  - Experience in: Python, C, C++ (at least one)
- ROS is helpful;
- Raspberry Pi;
- Nice to have experience in: XBee; Wifi Mesh Networks
