Please remember:
- Students pursuing Amgen must be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or students with DACA status.
- Students pursuing Amgen must complete the 10-week program from June 18 - August 23, 2024. Students must commit to these dates. No exceptions will be made.
- Accepted students must live in provided Caltech housing.

NOTE 1: This project is being offered by a Caltech alum and is open only to Caltech students. The project will take place at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, about 20 miles west of New York City. NOTE 2: Due to funding requirements, this position is open only to US citizens or US permanent residents. We have developed a technology using micron sized particles of thermally volatile solids mixed into a polymer matrix to enhance surface roughness and hydrophobicity of most polymers. Thermal processing is not always possible, so this project will develop photochemically volatilizable materials to incorporate as particles into polymers and evaluate the increase in hydrophobicity generated in polymer surfaces after photolysis. |

Description: | The student will prepare materials that can be photochemically volatilized. These are known materials that can be prepared using literature methods. These materials are prepared as fine particles (1-50 microns) and incorporated into polymer coatings. The coatings are then photolyzed and the resulting surfaces analyzed using contact angle. | ||||||||
