Project:  Commercial Electronics Reliability
(JPL AO No. 16160)
Disciplines:  Electrical Engineering, physics
Mentor:  Jean Yang-Scharlotta, (JPL), Jean.Yang-Scharlotta@jpl.nasa.gov, Phone: (818) 354-0412
Background:  This task seeks to evaluate the reliability for commercial and automotive electronics for the space environment. In the past 20 years, commercial electronics have seen amazing growth, while space-specific electronics remain limited. Therefore, efforts to demonstrate the reliability of commercial electronics in the foundation of modern devices such as smart phones, AI- capable computing, internet of things, miniaturized systems, and autonomous systems offer a path to enable those capabilities in space systems. That is the objective of the NASA Parts Evaluation and Assessment Laboratory.
Description:  This project under the NASA Parts Evaluation and Assessment Laboratory will select modern, commercial electronics of interest, design and build test hardware and software, execute the test, and publish the results for NASA and the space community. The work will be fast-paced and hands-on. You will be in the lab probably daily to design, build, and execute testing for the bulk of the internship. At the end of the internship you will be presenting the results to JPL community and the results will be published and used by NASA and the space community.
