Project:  DSN Receiver Modeling and Simulation in Simulink and Matlab Program
(JPL AO No. 16177)
Disciplines:  Electrical and Computer Eng, Applied and Computational Mathematics
Mentor:  Wanqing Huang, (JPL), Wanqing.Huang@jpl.nasa.gov, Phone: (818) 393-0597
Background:  The NASA Deep Space Network (DSN) is an international network of facilities that support interplanetary spacecraft missions, radio science, and Earth-orbiting missions. One of the DSN's responsibilities is to download spacecraft data and to determine a spacecraft's trajectory and distance from Earth using range measurements. The Downlink Telemetry & Tracking (DTT) Subsystem performs the receiver functions (demodulation and decoding) to recover spacecraft telemetry data as well as the tracking functions to implement spacecraft ranging. This AO is a chance for a student to assist with modeling and simulation of the DSN receiver in Simulink and Matlab in both floating point and fixed point.
Description:  The student has an opportunity to help with the DTT subsystem design modeling and simulation. The student will get a chance to 1) learn the fundamentals of a digital communications system, 2) learn the design modeling in Simulink and Matlab script 3) learn simulation and implementation techniques for communication systems.
