Project:  Machine Learning for Human-Robot Interaction
Disciplines:  Computer Science, Computation and Neural Systems (CNS), Electrical Engineering
Mentor:  Yanan Sui, Associate Professor, (EAS), ysui@tsinghua.edu.cn, Phone: +86-10-6279 8597

Background:  NOTE: This project is being offered by a Caltech alum and is available only to Caltech students. The project will be conducted at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, OR the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The exact location will be determined in the spring and depends on US travel advisories.

Specialized rehabilitation robots have been widely used in assisting therapists to perform repetitive training for stroke patients. However, few studies have been conducted on stroke rehabilitation training industrial collaborative robots. In this project, we will investigate the capabilities of reinforcement learning and collaborative robots with visual and motor feedback, with potential applications for rehabilitation after stroke. We will work on vision and motor-based reinforcement learning algorithms, and apply them in simulations + real world experiments.
Description:  Student will learn and develop advanced reinforcement learning algorithms for robot arm manipulation. We will investigate the capabilities of reinforcement learning and collaborative robots with visual and motor feedback, with potential applications for rehabilitation after stroke. We will work on vision and motor-based reinforcement learning algorithms, and apply them in simulations + real world experiments.
